The first puzzle a child uses is not really a puzzle. It is a board with handles, a place for every shape, and a satisfying clunk when the piece goes home. Peg and knob puzzles exist because a two-year-old cannot yet pinch a flat piece off a table: the handle turns a grip problem into a pull, and the pull is the whole game.

This range covers the three formats that matter. Peg puzzles have a small peg on each piece. Knob puzzles have a larger, rounder knob for the youngest hands. Chunky puzzles use thick pieces with no handle at all, which suits children moving on from knobs but not yet ready for a flat jigsaw. All three are cut from plywood, painted with water-based paint and sanded so there is no sharp edge anywhere on the board.

For a retailer, these are the highest-turnover puzzles in the category. They are bought as first birthday presents, as nursery staples and as classroom sets. The mix that works is one animal board, one vehicle board, one shape or number board, and a chunky transport set — four SKUs that cover the wall of a small shop.

Knobs and pegs are glued and pinned, not screwed, and are pull-tested on every batch. Board thickness is 9 to 12 mm; piece thickness 12 to 18 mm for chunky formats.

Questions about peg & knob?

What is the difference between a peg puzzle and a knob puzzle?
The handle size. A peg is a small cylinder, usually under 10 mm across; a knob is a larger round grip, easier for a child under two. Chunky puzzles have no handle at all.
Which age band do they suit?
Knob puzzles from about 12 months, peg puzzles from about 18 months, chunky puzzles from about 2 years. The board should be graded on piece size, not on the picture.
Can we add a name or logo?
Yes — printed on the board face, engraved on the back, or on the packaging. A name printed per unit is a made-to-order run, usually from 100 pieces.
How are they packed?
Shrink-wrapped board with a colour header card, or a full colour box. Carton quantity and gross weight are on each product page.
