Shape Sorter Puzzles
One hole, one shape, one very satisfied child.
A shape sorter is the purest puzzle there is: one hole, one shape, no picture to help. The child has to compare an edge to a gap, rotate the piece in their hand and try again. That loop is the whole product, and it is why shape sorters stay in print for decades while licensed characters come and go.
The range covers flat matching boards with cut-out shapes, lift-out geometric puzzles, multi-layer shape stackers and colour-sorting boards. Plywood construction, water-based paint, rounded corners, and pieces sized for the age band on the page. Most boards are 9 to 12 mm thick; chunky versions use 15 to 18 mm pieces.
For a shop, shape sorters sit in the same bay as first puzzles and sell on the same occasions. The practical assortment is three: a basic four-shape board, a nine-shape board, and one multi-colour or multi-layer version for the slightly older child. Schools buy the larger boards in multiples.
Shape tolerances are checked with a go/no-go gauge; a sorter that is too tight frustrates a child and one that is too loose does not teach.
